Senior Merrick Amankwa, a standout volleyball player from Sterling High School, has officially committed to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville to continue her academic and athletic career. Known for her versatility on the court, Amankwa’s commitment marks an exciting milestone in her journey as an athlete. During her high school career, Amankwa was a key contributor to her team’s success, excelling in her position as a setter.
Her leadership, work ethic, and ability to perform under pressure made her a special player and a team captain in her senior year. Not only did she earn multiple awards and break records, she also helped lead her team to a 21-12-4 record to finish the season.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville, a member of the NCAA Division III Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), has a strong volleyball program and a commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes. Amankwa’s decision to join the Pioneers reflects her alignment with the program’s values and aspirations.
Amankwa shared, “My deciding factor was the dynamic of their volleyball program. Their program work ethic, training, and care for their athletes, is what caught my interest as it was what I was looking for in a volleyball program.”
As she prepares to make the transition to collegiate volleyball, Amankwa’s high school coaches, teammates, and community celebrate her achievements and look forward to her continued success on and off the court.
Head coach Dale Dykeman said, “Being a four-year starter, Amankwa had a lot of experience at the varsity level, she was able to learn from previous seniors on how to lead on the floor and in practice, that experience allowed her to lead a younger group of athletes that will continue to improve the programs success.”
UW-Platteville is undoubtedly gaining exceptional talent in Amankwa, who is undecided on a major at the moment but is interested in business or sports management.
