Black Student Union advisor Taylor Jackson and president Taah Liberty and vice president Joslyn Green came up with the new sock drive donation to help those in need for this winter season.
This donation idea came from Liberty’s mom and they started planning from there. The new sock drive donations will be evenly distributed between local shelters for those in need. As winter progresses, many of those under shelter need food, clothes, etc. The club noticed that these shelters need new socks the most.
Junior Joslyn Green explained, “After this semester, I hope we can continue making donations for those in need.”
This donation plan started on November 11, 2024, and will be going on up until December 12, 2024. If you are planning on donating new socks, they have to be new socks for adults, kids, and infants. They can also come in any color or brand. To also help the raise of donations, anyone who came to the December third and December fifth girls basketball games with new socks, will get a free admission.
Social studies teacher Taylor Jackson added, “I am really pleased how the donations are going and I’m glad it’s going to a great cause.”
In order to make as many donations as possible, Jackson will be giving out extra credit for her students that donate up to five pairs of new socks. A bonus she also added is if you have her for two class periods you get double the extra credit.
Senior Taah Liberty added, “I hope it’s a big turnout for those in need.”
Liberty has been in this club since 2023, when former counselor Christine Herron began the B.S.U. This school year, she gained the role of being club president.
As the sock drive continues on, new socks can be dropped off at the main office or Jackson’s classroom (room 202) up until December 20.
