On Saturday November 2, the student council executive team for 2024-2025 was announced. Each year student council chooses new candidates to represent each grade and elect a senior to be president and a junior to be vice president. Together they oversee all important events and plans that student council works on. On Wednesday, October 30, voting opened up for all student council members to choose who they believed would be the best choice to be a representative.
As executive team members, they are expected to attend extra meetings, plan events, and lead other student council members. Sophomore representative Owen Ports is excited for the holiday season and is “looking forward to planning holiday activities.”
Even though this role comes with a lot of responsibility, freshman representative Emma Pham said she was eager to apply to this role because she “wanted to be more involved in our school and have a voice on certain decisions.” Executive team members make all kinds of decisions dealing with homecoming, Christmas dress up days, and improving student council.
Junior representative Mackenzie Wolfe was asked if she has been a student council executive before and what she’s most excited for and she said, “I have not been a student council executive before this year. I am so excited to work with the executives and be a voice for my grade level!”
Student council members have the opportunity to be on the executive team every year of their highschool career as long as they are voted on and show that they deserve and earn their position.
No matter how long you have been involved with student council, you can always apply for one of the executive positions. William Ports, the senior representative, said “I have only been involved in student council for two years.”
Vice president Gavin Fischer was asked if he will be running for student council president next year and shared, “Yes, I will be running for student council president next year. Lainey Block, last year’s president, and Adamari Gutierrez, this year’s president, have been great mentors and inspirations to me. It would be an honor to follow in their footsteps to grow the club significantly.” Fischer has been involved with student council for three years and is also in charge of the life skills committee.
Student council president Adamari Gutierrez said, “As president, I hope to make stuco a safe environment for everyone. I also hope to continue to leave an impact on our community!”
Student council is an important club that helps with a lot of events and activities. The representatives give student feedback and make sure that everyone’s opinions are heard.
