Sterling High School’s Chapter of National Honor Society hosted their induction ceremony for all new National Honor Society members in the S.H.S. library on Tuesday, November 19.
Upon receiving their acceptance letters, students attended a meeting with S.H.S. counselor and National Honor Society advisor Darci Francis. This meeting went over the requirements and expectations of being in NHS as well as giving students the details regarding their official induction.
Students, advisors, and parents met in the S.H.S. library to perform the ceremony.
Junior Chloe Clark was “So excited to be able to get to do something this amazing, but [she] was scared as [she] didn’t know what to expect”. While the newly inducted students were a little nervous as they weren’t completely sure what to expect, this ceremony was a special moment for all of them.
During the ceremony, students heard from the NHS officers, were presented with their official NHS certificate of induction, and participated in a candle-lighting ceremony. Seniors Patrick Riley, Samantha Knox, Jubraan Alkhalaf, and Ellie Aitken are the four officers who each wrote their own speeches for the new inductees. Each of them spoke on one of the four main virtues that goes into being an NHS member.
Officer Ellie Aitken thought “it went really well even though I was a little nervous, but once I stepped up to the podium the nerves went away.”
After all speeches were given, Francis began the official handing out of the new members certificates of induction. While students got individually recognized, candles were given out to each inductee to officially induct them into NHS. After recognizing every new member, candles that represented the previously discussed four virtues were passed around and used to light everyone’s candle.
Alkhalaf then led all the inductees in repeating the National Honor Society pledge, and then blowing out their candles, officially inducting them into NHS.
National Honor Society is an amazing club for students to be a part of and this ceremony was a time for these individuals to be recognized for their accomplishments alongside fellow classmates, advisors, and their loved ones.
