With the State Finals being held from October 24 through 26, the girls tennis season has finally come to an end. The girls had an incredible season this year and were able to place in many meets and grow together as a team.
Tennis practices started in August and they were happy to welcome many new members to the team. The team had around 45 members on the team which was split into J.V. and varsity.
Their first big meet of the season was the Harlem Invite on September 7 where they were able to win first place. It was a true team effort and every one of the girls had to work very hard to achieve first place.
The team then had senior night on September 16 and won 9-0 to Kewanee. This year the team had five seniors which include Eleanor Aitken, Lisandra Caldron, Adamari Guiterrez, Aleida Vasquez and Jamie Le.
The Sterling Invite was held on September 22, where the team was able to secure the first place win. Senior Eleanor Aitken and Sophomore Fareeda Alkalaf both won singles in their bracket. Junior Avery Moran and Sophomore Sadie Hendrix were able to take second in their doubles match.
The season was starting to come to an end as the team headed to their conference meet where the team played diligently and Aitken was able to qualify for the second day.
Aitken ended with a strong finish and placed third at both the conference and sectional meet. She made the second day for the sectional meet as well which allowed her to qualify for state.
Qualifying for state was a big accomplishment because Aitken was able to go to state all four years of her high school career. Aitken said that she was “really happy because [she] had this goal since 6th grade so accomplishing it was amazing.”
She won her first two matches at state and finished in the top 25-32. However, this isn’t the end of tennis for Aitken because she plans to play in college as well at UW-Stevens Point.
The girls tennis season has now wrapped up and it has been an incredible season for all the girls on the team. They not only accomplished many things on the court but were able to grow as people and make new friendships along the way. The girls can’t wait for what is to come next tennis season.
