“It Ends With Us” was released in theaters on August 9, 2024. This sad, romantic movie was inspired by Colleen Hoover’s popular book “It Ends With Us”. During this rom-com film, a florist, Lily Bloom who is played by Blake Lively, moves to Boston to chase her dream of owning her own business.
As she lives there longer, she goes through a series of events and unexpected twists. In the movie, she falls deeply in love with a neurosurgeon, Ryle Kincaid who is played by Justin Baldoni, who turns out to be abusive, which reminds her of her parent’s relationship growing up. Soon after, her first love, Atlas Corrigan who is played by Brandon Sklenar, comes back into her life which leaves Ryle furious and abusive. During their relationship, Ryle proposes and soon, Lily gets pregnant and realizes she can’t keep living in an abusive relationship so, she ends the relationship and starts a new one with Atlas.
Throughout her journey in the movie, she reminds us of the importance of self love, forgiveness and the ability to create our own happy ending in life even in the face of adversity. The lesson of this movie is that love isn’t always enough to support a relationship, you have to trust them and make sure you are comfortable with them. This movie has encouraged people to escape those abusive relationships.
Before the movie came out, “It Ends With Us” was a book published by Colleen Hoover. Justin Baldoni, the director, was inspired by the book and decided to make this movie to help those in an abusive relationship. The book was written based on her relationship between Hoover’s parents, and supports the theme of domestic violence and emotional abuse but the book is still billed as a romance novel. They are both very similar but the movie has main points missing out such as, the characters being older in the movie, Ryle’s proposal and even the domestic violence scenes were different in the movie than in the book.
Although this movie is popular, the PG-13 rated movie is not recommended for younger kids due to the abusive scenes, etc. Overall, I think this is a must-watch and definitely worth the money, especially for those who are struggling in their relationship and need help to leave.
