As we get closer to Halloween, the new “BeetleJuice BeetleJuice” movie is there to welcome the Halloween season. The movie was released to theaters on September 6, 2024, and Halloween lovers are satisfied with the movie, which boasts a 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.
When I first heard about this movie, I was excited that some of the original cast made a return to the sequel. I am a huge fan of Winona Ryder in “Edward Scissorhands” and “Stranger Things” alongside Michael Keaton who previously appeared in “Batman.” I was also excited to see Jenna Ortega who previously appeared in “Wednesday” and “You.” These past couple years Jenna Ortega has made a name for herself in the Halloween lovers community. I think she was rightfully casted for this movie.
The original “Beetlejuice” was about a devious ghost who attempts to prevent the ghost family of the Deetzes from haunting their original house. This exciting new sequel has descendants of the original Deetzes return home and discover a portal to the after life. Beetlejuice comes into play when someone says his name three times repeatedly.
In my opinion, the original movie is a cult classic that deserves all the praise it gets. It is hard to make a sequel that would live up to its predecessor. While saying this, the new Beetlejuice movie does a good job of this, with its exciting plot tying back to the original film. It does fall short; however, as the movie felt a little dull at times.
I personally think that the new Beetlejuice film is a worthy sequel because of the thrilling mix of both old and new elements combined. I would recommend this movie to anyone who enjoyed the previous movie and anyone who likes mild comedy with some subtle horror.
