The Sterling High School Travel club is currently preparing for their upcoming Boston trip from June 23 to June 27, 2025. Activities the club will participate in include exploring Quincy Market, walking the Freedom Trail, visiting the Salem Witch Museum, and many more enjoyable and educating experiences.
The travel club currently has 32 members and is a mix of new and previous members. When asked about advice for current members, former travel club member senior Kayleigh Bentz said she would “really recommend getting out of your shell and talking to the other people in the group and not just your friends.”
There are many reasons why travel club can be enjoyable for many different people. Travel club members have a say in places visited in Boston, and even help decide the locations of trips later on in the year.
Travel club advisor Heather Johnson said, “We try to really listen to what the travelers want to do and plan accordingly.” Specifically this year, “it seems students really want food and cultural-centered travel experiences, so we are hoping to include lots of those!”
When asked about the best things about travel club sophomore Owen Ports said, “I enjoy travel club because it lets me go to places outside of Sterling with my friends, without having to organize anything myself.”
In Boston, there are many opportunities for different people to enjoy their visit, including different restaurants, Fenway Park, and various historical sites. Bentz recommends for members to “go to Mike’s Pastries” because “they have the best cannolis.”
Travel club has several other trips, including a trip to Maquoketa, Iowa on October 12, as well as student-decided trips around December and February. If you are interested in travel club, do not hesitate to reach out to travel club advisors Heather Johnson and Camilla Hartman if you have questions regarding joining the S.H.S. Travel Club.
