On August 23, 2024, Sabrina Carpenter released her sixth studio album “Short ‘n Sweet.” The album has intriguing melodies and is effortlessly executed.
Carpenter embedded hints of releasing a brand new album within her first single “Espresso.” Reported as the “song of the summer” by Ice Spice, “Espresso” had sat at number 1 on the Billboard Global Top 200 for 7 non-consecutive weeks.
On June 6, 2024, she released her second single “Please Please Please” that placed closely behind “Espresso.” Two months later, the album was released.
Each song has a fun early 2000’s feel, with clever word play that leaves me speechless every time I replay a track. Songs like “Taste” and “Coincidence” have a sense of revenge and edge to them.
Both songs mention men abandoning Carpenter for another woman, leaving a bitter feeling in the song. A tragic, yet fascinating concept that makes each song come together. On the other end of the spectrum, lustful songs like “Juno” and “Bed Chem” allow the audience to enjoy beats about Carpenter in love. These exciting tunes set the mood for the entire album.
Other songs that correlate are “Dumb & Poetic,” “Don’t Smile,” and “Lie To Girls.” These songs are known to be the unhappiest on the album.
I personally prefer sad songs, because we see Carpenter in a completely different light. It isn’t like all of her hit songs, it’s where we start to see her more vulnerable side. Lastly, “Sharpest tool,” “Slim pickins,” and “Good Graces” are another group of sour songs. They refer to dull, upsetting men.
I personally really enjoyed this album, and thought it was a perfect addition to her collection of albums. My favorite song was “Lie To Girls.” This was my favorite because of the repeating lyrics, “Girls will cry and girls will lie.”
I’m a huge fan of harmonies and repeating lyrics and this song was full of it. A perfect mix of cheekiness and cleverness.
