Homecoming is approaching quickly, and there might be some last minute things you forgot about that you need!
There are many different places in the area to buy your flowers. Selmi’s Bridal and Special Events and Florist in Rock Falls, has many great options. Behrens Bloom is another popular flower place that sells many homecoming corsages and bouquets. They will also add on a boutonniere for an additional cost. If you don’t want to buy from there, the S.H.S. floral design class with Megan Stanley can create one for you at a cheaper price. The prices range from anywhere between $15-$20. She offers a wrist corsage, pin/magnet boutonniere, or a pocket one.
Dress options are limited in our town, so your best bet is buying one from someone you know. If you don’t mind driving a little bit, many people like Gipper Prom in Crystal Lake, Ill., or Peaches, in Chicago, Ill.. Dress options can be very hard depending on what style and/or color you’re looking for.
Senior Finley Ryan says, “I got my dress at Gipper Prom because that’s where me and my cousins wanted to go. But they didn’t have many good options this year.”
Finding an outfit for boys is very easy. All you will need is a button up shirt and dress pants with a bow tie/tie to match your date.
Finding a place to take photos can be very tricky. The most popular place is downtown at the market in Sterling or the Dillon Home. Some even travel to Dixon or Rock Falls to use their riverfront.
Freshman Chloe Hemminger said, “I think me and my group are going to take photos at the farmers market because we want to be close to the place we’re eating at.”
Many girls get spray tans so they don’t look so pale in their photos. Life Skills aide Shay Papoccia is one of the most popular in Sterling who gives the best spray tans called Glam Tan. Also Holly Behrens, former S.H.S. student, started her own spray tan business called spraysby.holly. Costs vary for each business.
Jewelry and shoes can also be a hard pick. Claire’s at the mall might have some options for earrings or necklaces. Marshalls has jewelry options as well. Kohls may have some options, depending on what you’re looking for. Your best bet for shoes would be Amazon.
Reservations for food places around here are Candlelight Inn in Rock Falls because the Sterling one closed. Luxx, the Restaurant which is new here in Sterling could be an option if you’re looking for a more fancy place. If you’re wanting to go to Dixon, there is the Basil Tree and Palmyra Pub and Eatery.
Homecoming week can be stressful, but fun at the same time. Just remember to capture every memory in and enjoy it!
