On September 5, the theater department had an informational meeting to discuss all things happening in the theater department, including the fall play, musical, contest play, speech, the London trip, and more.
The fall play was announced as “Pride and Prejudice” during the meeting. This play is about the relationship between Elizabeth Bennet (played by senior Katie Moore), the daughter of a country gentleman, and Fitzwilliam Darcy (played by senior Owen Gaffey), a rich aristocratic landowner.
Auditions were held for the fall play on September 9 and the cast list was posted that friday on September 13.
The musical was announced as “Catch Me If You Can” by Terrence McNally. This is a musical comedy about chasing your dreams and not getting caught and was also a popular movie in 2002, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.
During this meeting, they also talked about the upcoming London trip this summer. Every year the theater department takes a trip to New York to see Broadway shows but this summer the theater department is going to London.
Theater members participating in this trip are very excited to go. Sophomore Evalyn Gaffey said she “has never been out of the country, so this will be an exciting experience.”
They also talked about a big change that will be coming to the theater department this year. Director Tim Schlegel will be taking a step back from director this year and mainly doing work with set designs.
With this being said, choir director Weston Henry will be taking over as the main director for the musical. Schlegel will still be helping with the musical; he just won’t be the main director.
Contest play and group interpretation will also be taking place closer to the end of the school year, so look out for information on those when the time comes.
