This year’s Homecoming theme is “The Great Gatsby.” The dresses cannot be lackluster, but what is the right style and where can a perfect dress be found?
Student Council advisor Nicole Schlemmer stated, “The colors of the theme are black and gold, and anything glitzy or sparkly is perfect.”
“The Great Gatsby,” as the theme implies, goes all out with glamour and glitter. The story “The Great Gatsby” takes place in the 1920s, when styles were sleek, beaded, and with glittery dresses. So if you would like to dress to the theme, a body con glittery or sequined dress is what you need. As far as colors, gold, silver, and black are perfect for the theme, but white is always a good option with any theme.
Senior Victoria Nguyen recommends “Windsor and Peaches because they have a lot of cute dress options.”
Windsor dresses range from about 30 dollars to 150 dollars. They offer 646 different styles, which you can order online or purchase in store at North Park Mall in Davenport, Iowa. Windsor is a great option, especially budget wise, because they have dresses in many different styles for very good prices.
Peaches Boutique has dresses ranging from 50 dollars to 1,600 dollars, many of the dresses fit the 1920s theme. They offer hundreds of styles online and in person in Chicago. Peaches boutique is a good option especially for those who plan to resell their dress to offset the cost.
Many dresses are available on the second hand market for those who have environmental or budget concerns. Second hand dresses are often a fraction of the price and are available on online platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, Poshmark, or Snapchat stories from people nearby. They’re also available at our local Goodwill or Stage Two.
Dress shopping can be a really fun process that can be worked into any budget. At the end of the day, whatever dress makes you feel good will be perfect for homecoming.
