Recently FFA held their elections for officers for the 2024-2025 school year. These officers will officially be installed on April 16.
The new officers are president Grace Wetzell (sophomore), vice president Landon Kukowski (sophomore), secretary Madison Stern (sophomore), treasurer Dani Slonneger (freshman), reporter Juliet Funderberg (freshman), and sentinel Kadielynn Nelson (junior).
To have a leadership role in the FFA, students have to go through a system of applications and on these applications for many of them you have to tell them why you want that position and why you think you would be a good fit for that position. Those applications get looked at by advisors so they can make the best decision for the roles.
FFA Advisor Megan Stanley has been an advisor for four years and looked over the applications this year.
Wetzell said, “I’m excited to be the FFA President because I want to be a strong voice for ag and FFA at Sterling High School. My goal is to introduce as many students as possible to our organization and help them discover their true potential. There are so many opportunities available through FFA, that there really is an entry point for anyone to be involved. Our members are the future voice of agriculture and I’m excited to help them be heard.”
The president’s responsibility is to lead the officer team and help any member when it is needed.
As vice president, Kukowski’s role is to step up when needed or when the president is in need. Stern was secretary last election and is just stepping up to be the secretary again. The secretary’s responsibility is to keep an accurate record of all meetings.
As reporter, Funderberg’s responsibility is to inform members about the events occurring in FFA, take pictures capturing the fun of FFA at events that occur and create and publish a quarterly newsletter about previous events and activities occurring in FFA.
Slonneger is the treasurer and she is responsible for the money and perches to make sure that all of the money is spent on the right thing and where they need it to go. Nelson is the sentinel. This role is to maintain order and to assist the president with anything they need to make sure everyone is comfortable and that everyone is having a good time.
The FFA has a new officer team every year and are the reason FFA thrives. They take on leadership roles to make sure everything runs smoothly. Good luck to all of the new officers!
