“Godzilla X Kong: The Last Empire” was released on March 29, 2024, and is the newest installment to the franchise, which previously included “Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Godzilla: King of Monsters,” and “Kong: Skull Island.” During this movie the monster faced an entire new underground world and faced death multiple times against new villains.
The movie starts in “Hollow Earth,” which is Kong’s now that he has defeated the Mechagodzilla, and this world is where the scientists keep him to study and care for him. While the film focuses on Kong, it switches to Godzilla, who continues to fight for humanity against the monsters in Rome and then returns to rest in his coliseum.
The scientist then discovers an abnormal electrical wave from the island that cannot be explained. Then, the main character “Jia” gets introduced to the movie as the last known survivor of the Iwi tribe from Skull Island. Jia gets multiple episodes of hallucinations and flashbacks of radiation and attacks. A sinkhole opens on Skull Island, and Kong goes into it with scientists to find the other world.
During this, Godzilla is preparing for a great battle, charging himself up because he feels a disturbance. Kong gets into multiple altercations, ultimately upsetting the final titan. The ultimate battle occurs, and the final Titans stay alive and return to rest. After this, Jia also decides to return home and live with her tribe, where she feels most at home with her current mortal mother caring for her.
After watching this one-hour and 55-minute film, you will not be disappointed; the movie will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time between the amazing soundtrack and the intense action and battle scenes. If you want to find more movies like this one, I recommend watching the “Cloverfield” trilogy. Similar to monsters clearing out the general public, this would also have many great action scenes. Another great movie I would recommend to watch if you liked more of the storyline of the natural beast “Godzilla” would be any of the “Rise Of The Planet Ape” movies. Many of the same ideas are used with science, interfering with natural wildlife and turning them savage in this movie and this will definitely be a great watch.
Although this is a great movie, the rating of PG-13 should be respected: this film is not for the younger ones. Overall, this is a must-watch for 2024 and should be on your bucket list of movies to watch next time you get the chance.
