Taylor Swift is currently the biggest celebrity in the world, with multiple records broken, and millions of fans joining her massive fan-base every year. What makes her such a popular artist is her versatility as she switches from country to folk to pop within each album. At the 66th annual Grammy awards, Swift won awards and broke records, including the record for the first artist in the world to win the “album of the year” award four times in a row.
During her acceptance speech for the award, Swift decided it was a great opportunity to announce her brand new album, “The Tortured Poets Department.” This announcement caused a lot of turmoil, with some saying it was selfish of her, and others jumping out of their seats for new Swift music. While the majority of music fans are Taylor Swift’s fan base, she does have her haters as does every major music artist. The people who did not side with this announcement claimed it was mainly due to the time and place in which she chose to announce it. They said that it took away the special night from other artists and when the camera panned to them, they looked upset or bored.
Swift, however, does not let the hate get to her. Growing up as a celebrity and constantly having her face in the cameras, she had to learn how to deal with hate and backlash. Before the award show, there was initial speculation of Swift announcing a re-release of her controversial album, “Reputation.” Swift has been re-recording her albums due to her former label acquiring the rights to all of the original albums, allowing her former producer to make money off the songs instead of her.
When asked about why she likes Taylor Swift and her music so much, freshman Evalyn Gaffey stated, “I like her so much because I enjoy her music and she seems like a very genuine person.”
This seems to be the reason for her huge fan base: the fact that her personality and the way she treats her fans is in a very genuine way. She performs and acts in a way that does not make her seem like a celebrity, but more like a friend to her fans.
The “Reputation” re-release is definitely on its way, with many easter eggs from photos, concerts, outfits, and even her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who winked in a commercial for the Super Bowl while saying, “are you ready for it?” In the meantime, fans are able to look forward to her 11th brand new album and brand new songs to scream in the car.
Swift has had the biggest year out of any celebrity, seems happier than ever, and will continue to surprise fans and gain them along the way.
