The travel club at S.H.S. went on their third field trip of the school year. The advisors that traveled with the club were Heather Johnson and Cami Hartman. They went to Springfield, Ill.. to see Lincoln’s Tomb, Lincoln’s Presidential Museum and Library, and the Lincoln Home.
Johnson and Hartman chose the Springfield location because they “took a similar trip in 2020 and it was a great success. We thought we’d go again so more students had the chance to experience all the things about Abraham Lincoln.”
Freshman Caylee Lyons favorite part was the “Lincoln home because the film about this life that was shown in the visitors center was really interesting.”
Freshman Evelyn Camacho learned “that Abraham had more than two kids.” He had a total of four kids, but unfortunately one died from typhoid fever and the other from an unknown illness.
Junior Jamie Le really enjoyed “looking at all of the artifacts on display at the museum and exploring the Lincoln home.”
Many of the travelers on this field trip have been on previous trips this year. The students really liked all of the trips so far this year.
Camacho said that she “loved this museum compared to the others this year. But I think the escape room was really fun and unique.”
Le really enjoyed going down to Springfield because she liked how there was “more to explore on this trip; however, I thought the jazz museum and the escape room were the most interesting.”
Lyons learned on this trip that “Lincoln had kids and a wife before I only knew about what Lincoln did rather than who he was.”
Johnson and Hartman haven’t decided where the next trip will be, but will be planning that soon. However, this next trip will be the last trip that the travel club takes this year so you won’t want to miss it
