During a meet against DeKalb, senior Brenden Stanley bowled 12 strikes in a row making it a 300-point game. This was the second time in S.H.S. bowling history for a student to bowl a 300 during a meet.
“I think it was well deserved and it boosted the whole team. We were on a losing streak but after that, we started doing a lot better,” says sophomore Preston Near.
Stanley has been on the bowling team for all four years of high school and was in the Challand bowling program in middle school. He also attended a bowling camp at Blackhawk Lanes every year and attended one at Wichita State.
Getting a 300 is not the easiest task. It’s the highest score a bowler can earn in a game of bowling. But Stanley makes it look easy. He perfected his technique by bowling two-handed and aiming for the 32nd board. His ball has a left hook which gives an advantage when getting a strike.
This also isn’t the first time he’s bowled a 300 but it is the first time during a meet. Including practices and time on his own, he’s bowled a 300 six times already.
This year has been his best year on the high school team. He has the highest team average (183). Highest game (300) and series 752. He earned the team MVP award for this year as well.
“Brenden has some unique abilities. He is home-schooled and doing an excellent job with his studies. Despite his special needs, he has overcome the obstacles with bowling. He is in it for life,” said boys bowling coach Tracey Sivits.
He plans to continue bowling after high school whether it’s with a local league or just visiting the bowling alley on his own.
