In 2023 there were a lot of new albums and new artists to come along. Which led to the Grammy Award nominations in 2024. Dubbed the “Grammys,” the awards are used to recognize the year’s most popular music. 

  The nominees for 2024 include SZA, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Billie Elilish, and many more. These are many of the high schoolers favorites and are all very popular right now. Noah Kahan is a new artist who has really taken off. 

  The Grammys also recognize the songwriters. The songwriters nominated this year are Edgar Barrera, Jessie Jo Dillon, Shane McAnally, Theron Thomas, and Justin Tranter.

  Freshman Josslyn Green said, “I believe SZA deserves all of her nominations because she has touched a lot of people and has worked hard and come a long way.”

  Junior Carmen Camacho stated, “I believe Drake because everyone I talk to loves him and everyone can listen to him.” 

  The artists nominated this year bring a multitude of musicality to the table. For instance, Olivia Rodrigo is very popular and writes with heartbreak. All of her albums have well over 300 million streams. In the rap area, Drake is popular as he has been around since 2006. Yet, he is still popular. He doesn’t just bring music for the younger generation but also the older. Pop artist Taylor Swift has gotten really popular because of her famous hits. She has also been thrown into the spotlight, dating NFL star Travis Kelce.

  Sophomore Macie Lofgren “[believes] Taylor Swift should win her nomination because she has worked so hard to earn all her money and who she has become and she did it all on her own.” 

  While many fans have their predictions and opinions, it is ultimately up to members of the Recording Academy to pick their favorite stars. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards will be hosted by Trevor Noah and air on television on February 4.
