S.H.S. has had a couple new facility upgrades since last year. Classrooms have new lights, the tennis court was repainted and has a new sign the commons have a S.H.S. theme tint on the window, and the softball fields are also getting lights.
The new lights in all the teachers’ rooms are different from last year. The new lights are LED and you can dim different sections of the lights at a time, unlike the old lights where you could just turn them off and not dim them at all.
English teacher Jennifer Drew said, “What I enjoy about them are the different settings that allow me to dim certain areas of my room and that I don’t feel the strain on my eyes. The old lights would hurt my eyes after being in the classroom all day.”
The tennis courts have had some changes as well, they now have a Golden Warrior sign on the court. The court was also repainted, the court was repainted to blue with white lines.
The commons now has a S.H.S. theme tint on the Fourth Avenue side of the commons that has the S.H.S. logo on it and is blue and gold.
Also the S.H.S. turf softball fields are now getting lights so they will be able to play night games.
S.H.S. softball player Mya Lira said, “I was excited to hear about the new lights. It’ll be a great addition to our field allowing us to play later.”
The night time softball games will be a change for the players as they usually would have to play their games early so they could play without having lights so the games can be extended to different times.
With these facility upgrades and more to come in the future, Sterling High School continues to be one of the premier schools in the state of Illinois.
