After teaching for 29 years at Sterling High School, science teacher Christine Browne is preparing for her retirement after this year.
Browne started teaching at S.H.S. during 1994. She continued to teach a plethora of classes including Algebra 1, Geometry, Environmental Science, Chemistry 1, Chemistry 2, Accelerated Chemistry, AP Chemistry and Night School when S.H.S. offered Night School.
Browne chose S.H.S. because both of her parents graduated from Sterling High School. She also stated that Sterling “had a great reputation for offering high quality education” and always supported “students in a variety of extracurricular activities.”
When asked about her experience at S.H.S., Browne replied by saying that her “overall experience has been very positive.”
Browne has loved the staff while working at S.H.S. and stated that they have been “amazing” to work with and have always been “supportive of each other.”
One of her favorite things about working at S.H.S. is that the “students have treated me with respect.” She also enjoyed “watching students grow into very fine young adults.”
Junior Emma Sinn enjoyed having Mrs. Browne as a teacher as she loved being “able to have conversations with her about life.”
Sinn elaborated on how Browne not only taught but showed her “not all teachers are just there to teach, some want to be able to help students in hard times of their lives.”
Sinn came to “like chemistry” after having Browne as a teacher.
When asked about Mrs. Browne science teacher Mrs. Schlemmer told us that back in the 2011-2012 school year she was “lucky enough to be paired with Mrs. Browne as a mentor!”
Mrs. Schlemmer stated that Mrs. Browne “always lent a listening ear and helped make suggestions”. For anything that she was working on at that time.
When asked to leave a quote about Mrs. Browne, sheleft by saying that “The generations of SHS students who have been lucky enough to call her their teacher are so incredibly lucky!”
Junior Connie Ibrra had Mrs. Browne for Chemistry 1 during 2022-2023. Connie said that her favorite memory with Mrs. Browne “was flying and making hot air balloons”.
Connie recalls that her “balloon went the highest” compared to her classmates. Through the year Connie said that Mrs. Browne helped her the most by teaching her chemistry “equations”
When asked to leave a quote for future S.H.S. students Mrs. Browne said, “Remember that if all pork chops were perfect, we wouldn’t have hot dogs.”
