S.H.S. holds homecoming week

Homecoming is something everyone looks forward to. Somehow, this year’s homecoming was even bigger and better than the last.

During the summer, Student Council members held meetings where possible topics were discussed. Sophomore Gavin Fischer, who is one of the student council members, explains why they decided to go with the Northern Lights. He says, “We wanted a formal, big, and simple theme.”

The pre-assembly was held on the Friday before homecoming week in the fieldhouse. Many games were played, and students participated in these events. The games played were blindfolded cup-stacking, tug-of-war, tic-tac-toe, and wheelbarrow racing. The senior class was able to win all four games.

The student council members also came up with the themes for the dress-up days.

Senior Yamaan Alkhalaf, a member of student council, says, “We fixed the days and made sure the subjects were fun for everyone.” Dress-up days were fun, even for the staff who decided to participate. It was great to see everyone’s outfit for the dress days.

This year’s BBQ was bigger and better than the previous years. Shelby Rae’s, Main Squeeze, Brito’s, Coqui Comfort, and Mama Cimino’s provided food and beverages for the BBQ. There were also small games available for those interested. Yearbooks from the 2022–2023 school year were distributed. The homecoming court was also announced. The 2023 Homecoming King and Queen were Emily Lofgren and Garrett Polson. Junior attendants were Linclon Davis and Presley Winters. The sophomore attendants were Emily Schwingle and Maurice Delacruz. Freshman attendants were Alex Zaragoza and Jaz’Mya Castaneda.

Numbers Ball was a kickball tournament that students had the option to participate in. The senior class beat the junior class in the winning match. The junior class was not very pleased with the outcome of this game.

The post-assembly was located on the turf. 7 Brew joined us at the start of the assembly, handing out energy drinks to the first 250 students to enter the assembly. Several games were played outside; each class won a game, which made it fun for everyone. The cheer and poms team performed. Some of the senior boys performed a surprise dance to entertain the whole school. The cheer and poms team helped choreograph the boys’ dance. This ended with a short video of staff participating in the Homecoming Week fun.

It was so exciting to see each sport’s decorated float for the parade. The town is very supportive of coming out to the parade and football game. The football game was very close. The boys fought hard, and it showed. A couple of exciting touchdowns were made that night. Junior Drew Nettleton set a record for the most touchdown passes in a game.

Homecoming Day was so exciting; it was the day everyone was looking forward to. Everyone looked amazing that night. There were a few different backdrops for the students to take pictures with their friends and/or their date. A ping pong table was added this year. The decorations in the fieldhouse house were very beautiful, thanks to the student council members who put everything together for the whole school.

Homecoming week is fun for the students to have something to look forward to when going to school.
