Prom is right around the corner. Sterling High School’s junior class is doing many tasks in preparation for the big day as the goal is for the 2023 Prom to be enjoyable for everyone who attends. 

  A survey was sent out to all juniors and seniors to pick out a theme for this year’s prom. The highest vote for the prom theme was “Enchanted Garden.” Junior class president Emily Lofgren said, “The stage is going to have lots of greenery and gold lights to look like an Enchanted Garden.”

  This year’s prom will be held at the McCormick Event Center in Rock Falls. The McCormick Event Center has plenty of space for the junior class to work with when decorating. Those who have helped plan prom are eager to see everyone’s reactions to the event.

  There have been multiple fundraisers going on since August to raise money for this year’s prom. The junior class has sold class shirts, frozen pizza, Krispy Kreme donuts, ect. Junior Kirsten Workman has helped with several of the fundraisers. 

  Workman said, “My favorite part was the car wash because I got to do it with friends and I had a good time.”   

  Junior parents are also a major component of making everything perfect for prom. They have been hosting meetings to discuss everything from prom premier to prom tear down. Prom premiere will be held in the auditorium for all the families to watch. Each couple or group will walk down the stage and a picture will be taken. 

  As we get closer to the date of the dance, the junior class parents are starting to collect items for post prom raffle baskets. A while back inflatables were ordered for post prom, junior class members then had to decide how many they needed for the night. There are going to be many activities during post prom for everyone to do for the rest of the night. 

  There is so much thought and planning going into this event. The junior class is working very hard to make this prom one to remember. The hope is that seniors will have a special night for their last school dance.
