  There are many things that make a year stand out: celebrity break-ups, national sports results, political scandals. But, arguably, the most looked-forward-to events are new movie releases, and this year was filled with many. Here is a list of upcoming movies and their plots in order of release date. 

 

  “Ant Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” 2/17 The Marvel movies never fail to be big hits in the box office. Quantumania has been a long anticipated movie, ever since the release of phase five and six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Ant Man (Paul Rudd) will be stuck in the Quantum Realm along with the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), and their daughter, Cassandra Lang (Kathryn Newton). Civilization is found in the Quantum Realm and they familiarize themselves with one of its highest members, Lord Krylar (Bill Murray). 

 

  “John Wick 4”  3/24 Being the longest installment of the “John Wick” series, it is expected to pick up right after “John Wick 3.” John has completely separated from the assassin organization, “The High Table”. Many believe he died after being shot off a building, but actually recovering in the shelter of “The Bowery King”. This film will dive deeper into the lore surrounding this world. 

 

  “Creed III” 3/3 Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) is visited by a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy, Damian Anderson (Jonathan Majors), after serving a long sentence in prison, he is eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. 

 

  “Super Mario Brothers Movie” 4/7 From Nintendo and Illumination, this long-awaited film will feature famous voices like Chris Pratt for Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy for Princess Peach, and Jack Black for Bowser. Charles Martinet, famous for voicing many characters in the Super Mario video game series, will also make a voice appearance. The film’s plot will follow the same as the video games: Mario and Luigi go on adventures through the Mushroom Kingdom in order to save Princess Peach from the evil Bowzer. 

 

  “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3” 5/5 Known for the best soundtrack of the Marvel Universe, this movie has been anticipated since 2017. It will follow the events of “End Game”, “Thor: Love and Thunder”, and “The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special”. The group will team up and save the world for a final time as this is the last of their team-up. Rocket’s origins will be explored, Gamora from a different timeline will join the team, and a new villain, Adam Warlock, will be played by Will Poulter. Warlock was teased in the post-credits scene of Vol. 2, made by the leader of the Sovereign as powerful enough to defeat the Guardians. Other villains may be featured like the High Evolutionary and Ayesha from the previous film. 

 

  “Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse” 6/2 Taking place across six universes, this movie will feature Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), and the much anticipated Spider-man 2099 (Oscar Isaac). Miles will face off against the villain, the Spot (Jason Swatschman), who has the ability to easily access multiverse dimensions. You’ll spot many other Spider-men like Pete B. Parker, Spider-Woman, The Spectacular Spider-man, Spider-Punk, Scarlet Spider, and Bombastic Bag-Man. 

 

  “Transformers 7 Rise of the Beasts” 6/9 In this Transformers timeline, autobots and decepticons are replaced by their descendants, Maximals and Predacons. The Maximals had been in pursuit of the Predacons and crash landed on a different planet whose main energy source, Energon, forces them to take the form of animals rather than vehicles. 

 

  “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” 6/30 It is 1969, American archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones lives against the backdrop of the Space Race. Jones has started to feel doubts when the U.S. Government recruited former World War II enemies in their desperation to beat the Soviet Union out in the competition to make it to space. His goddaughter, Helena, accompanies him on his journey. Meanwhile, Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the moon-landing program, wishes to make the world into a better place as he sees fit

 

  “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning pt.1” 7/14 The movie picks up right after the events of the previous “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his crew are faced with another threat. Hunt will have a crew consisting of familiar and unfamiliar characters like Grace Vanessa Kirby (Hayley Atwell), Eugene Kittridge (Henry Czerney), Simon Pegg (Benji Dunn), Rebecca Ferguson (Ilsa Faust), and Ving Rhames (Luther Stickell).

 

  “Barbie” 7/21 Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, this is the movie that no one asked for, but will surely be seen by many. Although not much is known about the movie’s plot, we know it will showcase a plastic-like environment with colorful costumes and lots of dancing.
