Athletes prepare for spring sports

As this spring season inches closer and closer, Sterling athletes are beginning to prepare for their sports by doing off-season training and workouts. As not everyone is going out for the same sport, preparation might be different for what athletes are doing for their specific sport. For example, one athlete might be working on speed training while another is perfecting their footwork and agility.

Senior and state triple jump champion Alice Sotelo said, “I have a lot of pressure on me this season, but in the end I have nothing to prove as I have already proved what I can do.” Sotelo is a big part of the girls track program and is working to lead her team again this upcoming season.

While it comes to the boys side of track for preparation, senior Dylan Doss has some big goals for his last season at SHS. Doss states, “My personal goals for this year is to have the 200m and 400m school record and possibly make it to state in the triple jump as well as the 200 and 400.” He has quite some big goals to achieve, as he has been training very hard this offseason by doing explosive lifting and private track workouts with sprinting and jumping Coach Kel Bond, along with a few other track athletes.

Baseball and softball athletes mentioned last but not least are ready to start the season off with brand new turf replaced. Locations where turf is being installed is Gartner Park for baseball, and of course the installation at the school for softball. Senior Katie Dittmar has been a four year player in this program and is working hard in the off-season to help her softball team. Ditmar said, “We’re doing open gyms every Wednesday as well as lifting every other day except Friday. The softball team hopes to have a great season!

Spring athletes are extremely excited to get back and compete with Sterling across their chest. They are preparing in the off season to be at their absolute best form by the time the season comes.
