“Avatar: The Way of Water” Predictions
It has been 13 years since the first Avatar movie was released. In those years, fans have been awaiting the second movie. “Avatar: The Way of Water” is coming to theaters on December 16. Before we dive into the predictions, let’s talk about the first “Avatar,” including the hype, cost, and people involved.
James Cameron and the rest of the production team spent from 1994 to 2009 working on the film. The reason why it took so long for it to be released is because of how many CGI effects went into the whole movie. The new movie took 13 years to come out because the technology they needed to film underwater was not yet available. The budget was 237 million. The budget for The Way of Water is 250 million, 18 million more than the first film. There are only 3 movies that have made a profit of just over two billion, including “Avatar” (2.9), “Avengers: Endgame” (2.7), and Cameron’s “Titanic” (2.1). People are expecting the upcoming “Avatar” film to make a profit of 2 billion.
Many of the actors from the first movie are in the second as well, including Zoe Saldaña (Neytiri), Sam Worthington (Jake Sully), Sigourney Weaver (Doctor Grace), Joel David Moore (Norm Spellman), Stephen Lang (Colonel Quaritch), Studi (Eytukan), and C.C.H. pounder (Mo’at). All of these characters play an important part in the story. I like how Cameron chose to have the same actors play their roles after 13 years. I think they chose to do this to possibly show age in the characters now that it’s a new era for the Omaticaya clan.
Many fans have been making predictions about what will happen in this second movie. I think in the 13 years between the first movie and now, the Omaticaya clan have relocated due to their home being destroyed in the first film. I am guessing that they merged with a water clan. I predict that the Omaticaya clan adapts to the water setting and learns how to use new resources.
As seen in the trailer, we know that the Resources Development Administration (RDA) has returned. Their goal is to obtain a rich element that does not exist on earth. Unobtainium is not a real element but scientists have used it as an example of the “perfect element” which could be why the writers have put Unobtainium into the storyline.
A struggle that humans have is that they cannot breathe the air of Pandora because of its high levels of carbon dioxide. If the humans were to take their oxygen masks off they would pass out in 4 seconds and die after 20 seconds. Their main offense mechanisms are attack helicopters and gigantic robot-like suits filled with oxygen. Now that the RDA knows what they’re up against, maybe they’ll come back with better strategies.
Of course, the Omaticaya clan will try to save their new home. Being relocated they have different materials and different animals they can use against the RDA. They can attack from the water, land, and air. The probability of them losing this fight is very low.
Whether my predictions are correct or not, “Avatar: The Way of Water” will still be an enjoyable movie. I suggest you watch the first movie if you haven’t already. Head out to theaters to experience this movie regularly or in 3D!
