On the summer job hunt? Look no further!

With the end of the school year nearing, many high school students are searching for a summer job. A summer job can be a great way for students to make extra money or fill their free time.

Many businesses hire high schoolers for summer jobs. Landscaping companies, restaurants, and retail stores all typically look for high schoolers to fill summer positions.

Most companies post job openings on their websites, or one can just walk in and ask for an application. There are plenty of job recruiting sites all over the internet like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, and many more. Be sure to contact businesses directly to inquire about job openings.

Getting a job while young comes with so many benefits. Summer jobs help kids build their resume, improve their work ethic, and work on their communication skills.

While he is currently participating on the boys’ track team and not currently employed, senior Kael Ryan said, “When I did work, it was very beneficial for my personal wants. It was cool to have the ability to shop using my own money that I earned.”

Skills learned while working a summer job will help successfully prepare students for their future. These are many skills that are needed, and getting used to them at a young age calls for future success.

Some places that just started hiring in the Sterling area are PetSmart, Walmart, CVS, Wendy’s, Halo, and Wahl. When it comes to requirements, there is a lot of versatility between the roles of these different jobs. This is why it’s so important to pay close attention to the requirements before applying.

A summer job is an opportunity for students to explore different career paths and gain insight into the working world. Senior Devin Fargher states, “I actually really like my job and what I do. Construction is likely what I’ll be pursuing for the rest of my life. Working has really changed everything for me when it comes to buying things on my own. Working is honestly the next step for maturity in life.”

When it comes to acquiring the job, be sure to research the company. Take notice of the requirements and company culture. Preparing a strong resume is key as it exemplifies one’s skills. After applying, always follow up with the job to show dedication and interest.
