  Lauren Roberts is a young new author, and she just came out with her first book, “Powerless.” This book follows a young woman named Paedyn Gray. Paedyn is a felon by fate and a thief by necessity. This book takes place in a kingdom where only the extraordinary belong. The Elites possess powers that were given to them by the Plague. Then some were born “Ordinary” who are simply normal people. Paedyn is an ordinary, but when the King banishes all ordinaries, she has to pretend to be an Elite. This book is a fantasy fiction and romance book. Books similar to this are “Dance of Thieves” by Mary E. Pearson and “The Whispering Dark” by Kelly Andrew. 

  Another book is “Assassin’s Blade” by Sarah J. Maas. This book follows an assassin named Celaena Sardothien. Although Celaena worked for the assassins guild, she yielded to no one. She only trusts fellow killer-for-hire Sam. When she is dispatched to the hostile deserts by the master of the guild, Arobynn Hamel, she has to question her allegiance. The overview by Barnes & Noble states “To escape and gain her freedom from Arobynn, she has to put her faith in her wits and her blade, knowing that if she fails, she’ll lose not just a chance at freedom but her life.” If you enjoy this genre, you will also enjoy all of Sara J.
